The United Way has distributed over a million dollars in assistance to local non-profits.

As we previously reported the lilly endowment distributed 1.3-million dollars to united way of greater lafayette.

Now we are hearing from a non profit about how they are using the funds it received to keep the people they serve safe.

Has been back up and running since june 9th.

"it wasn't something we were able to do by ourselves."-bess witcosky and a lot of that help came from the united way.

"they awarded us some grant funding that has allowed us to as we ramp up our services and fill in the gaps of that service break to maintain our operations."

The first phase of the united way's funding for non-profits was to help them with basic necessities like rent..

Utilities and food but now..

The organization is changing their focus.

"as we have moved in to the second stage of the process we've really gotten in to sustainability of non profits as they have lost revenue and fundraising opportunties.'-michael budd untied way of greater lafayette has awarded funding to 21 non profits in the area..

And all of them provide services that are needed now more then ever.

"the focus is on health and human service organizations ideally that are providing critical services during this crisis."-michael budd (nats( joyful journey is an adult day care facility..

Which provides seniors with with social interaction and activities.

"we are a social form of health care which makes it very interesting to keep maintaining our operations in the age of social distancing."- bess witcosky since the non-profit mostly provides services to senior they had to change the way they care for their participants.

A cost the organization says would have been challenging if not for the united way.

"it has really helped offset that cost.

We are so appreciative."

Budd says they have around 300-thousand dollars left of funding support for non- profits.

The united way says it's now preparing for an increase in a need for housing..
