An Australian farmer, based in Melbourne, has been posting footage online of rainbow-coloured Glass Gem corn cobs, in the hope of inspiring others to follow in his footsteps and grow their own food.

Peter, who asked for his family name to be withheld, has been growing organic produce for over 25 years, but his vibrant strain of coloured corn has helped him gain over 18,000 followers on his garden's social media page.

From particularly colourful cobs, Peter saves seed and replants it.

"It is absolutely stunning, and each corncob is uniquely different with varying colours and individuality.

Unwrapping the ripe cobs is like unwrapping an exciting present.

Great fun for kids and adults," Peter told Reuters.

The father of two, who lives 'on a standard suburban block', said that he involved his children in his gardening to teach them "how food grows and where it comes from." The farmer, who himself was inspired by his parents, added that "anyone can grow their own food no matter how big or small their available space is." (Production: Oleksandr Ieltsov)
