Some of the biggest holiday shopping days are behind us..

But not everyone has bought their gifts yet.

That means they can still be affected by scams. kezi 9 news anchor jaimie hayes sat down with the better business bureau and has more on what to look out for.

Welcome back i am here with danielle kane from the bbb and today we are talking about holiday shopping because a lot of us are getting ready for it actually a lot of us has already started it is really interesting 43% of people started in the beginning of november, almost half of people already started their holiday shopping.

The average shopper will spend $1,050 and that includes presents, gifts, food, drinks, decorations and travel what are scams to look out for the biggest thing is online scams, a lot us shop on online but things to be alert for is that there will be fake ads and website so one area is on social media, usually on the right hand side and those direct you to sights that are not real and even on google if you type something you want and you scroll down you may find that is not a real website what do we look for first we see if there is contact info, shipping police, refund policy.

Look at website if it says https--s usually means it is secure.

Look at the format, spelling, grammar, is the format sloppy.

Does it look like a really website?

What if they never receive their order or get something that isn't what they ordered usually what we get is it never comes or a counterfeit product, a lot of times when you report this to bbb and we reach out, we have a good track record contacting the person running the website, and sometimes we get the product shipped to you or resolve it so you can get a refund.

Not always and with this online shopping scams you usually never see it and so we say use a credit card that way you can call your credit card company and get it refunded.

And shipping scams, look for phony fed ex emails,that was popular email, you click the link and get malware on your computer.

Hover over the sender email and make sure it is from fed ex and if you are still on the hunt for some good christmas gifts..

You can score some big savings in december.

"deal news" recently listed some of the categories of things to buy.

Near the top of the list are gift cards.

Deal news says you may be able to find cards selling for 40-percent off face value.

Also watch for savings on headphones between now and christmas.

What you should hold off on buying until january -- exercise equipment.

Bedding also tends to be on sale in january.

And if you can wait until the new year, you may find more deals on winter clothing.
