News now... sparta police say there's no direct threat to student safety ... and classes resume today district- wide.
As we told you ... classes were canceled yesterday as a safety precaution ... in response to a report about a missing handgun potentially being in the hands of a student.
Police have now spoken with the student seen holding a handgun in a photo posted on social media... and say he was within his legal authority to have that gun... and that no crime was committed.
((ad lib weather)) today in washington ... the house judiciary committee holds its first public impeachment hearing.
The house intelligence committee voted along party lines yesterday to approve its report ... arguing the president used the power of his office' to pressure ukraine into investigating political rival joe biden.
Senator kamala ( ) harris is the latest democrat to exit the white house race.
In a video message to supporters she says her campaign didn't have enough money to continue.
Senator harris' poll numbers had declined steadily since peaking after the first debate in june.
Today in la crosse... a new admissions process is being formalized between viterbo university and western technical college.
It allows students to be formally admitted to both schools at the same time ... so they'll have resources from both schools available to them.

New this morning ... feminine hygiene products are now available for free in two- dozen state office buildings across wisconsin.
Supporters of the change say ... making things like tampons available for free is no different than having free soap or toilet paper in a public bathroom.
The cost to either install new units or convert existing ones was about 19- thousand dollars.
".... having this donor come to the table now and match all donations through the end of the year will help us reach our goal.
" the bandshell at riverside park is well on its way to being complete... but you still have a chance to be a part of the project.
Any donation made throughout the end of this year is being matched by an anonymous donor.
That donor says there is no cap on the amount they'll match.

And a christmas tradition for lots of families rolls back into our area tonight!
I'm talking about the canadian pacific holiday train.
It's all decked out in twinkling lights ... and there's live music at every stop!
Entertainment starts soon after the train arrives at each station.
There are stops planned in mauston... tomah... sparta... and la crosse.
Besides being a tradition for many families ... the train serves as a food drive for local pantries.
Donations collected during tonight's la crosse stop will go to the hunger task force.
