That was the discussion tonight at the chico city council.

We spoke with several parents who say they're in support of this.

The chico city council voted to have staff bring back an ordinance that would ban the sale of flavored tobacco in the city.

People who supported the ban said they were concerned flavored tobacco could get in the hands of underage people.

Those who were against the ban like small business owners who had vape shops said they were concerned this would affect their livelihood.

We spoke with two people who were at the meeting about what they thought.

Jesica gianola, lives in chico: i do sympathize with them as business owners, but we have to as a nation as a community look at what are the dangers.

The overall effect and risk to the children is so much far greater and real that we cannot ignore it.

Lisa curiel, lives in chico: we don't know what the ramifications of what vaping does.

We do know the ramifications of smokers because it's a known fact it causes lung cancer, you know, whatever it does for you.

But i think as grown adults we should be able to make that decision for ourselves.

Laura: staff will also come back with a plan on a tobacco retail licensing program.

City manager mark orme said that program could require retailers to pay an annual fee and that money would go towards enforcing not selling to minors.
