Veterans in our area are talking about the legalization of marijuana and how it could impact opioid overdose and suicide rates.

Minnesota veterans for cannabis held a public forum tonight in winona to discuss the medical benefits of using marijuana.

Measures to add chronic pain, opiate replacement, and raw cannabis failed in the minnesota legislature this year... but with veteran suicide rates hitting nearly 20 deaths a day, and more than 300- thousand veterans in minnesota... the organization says these forums help educate the public on how cannabis can help.

"we're trying to gather people that support cannabis legalization, peoplethat are against it, people that really don't know muich about it that would like to learn more and simply have a discussion.

It's very possible that adult personal use will be legalized in maybe the next 2 or 3 years.

So, maybe we can start discussing some of those issues."

Minnesota veterans for cannabis, along with other patient advocacy organizations, plan to pursue legalization provisions again in 20-20.
