Neighbors shocked after fatal shooting in Falkville home

Tonight we have new information on a story we first brought you as breaking news!

Falkville police identified the man shot and killed after a domestic dispute at a home on cedar creek road.

The police chief said jeremy gray was shot 4 times.

The suspect - whose name they are not releasing at this time - was released from police custody..

Waay 31's sophia borrelli spoke to people in the area who are still processing what happened.

Police say they collected all the evidence they need and have turned it over to forensics.

People i talked to say they've never seen anything like this in this close knit community.

Charles lott, neighbor: "it's just surprising.

Nothing like that ever happens in this neighborhood.

It's kinda scary.

Just a surprise to everyone."

Charles lott lives down the street from where police said a woman shot and killed her husband in a home on cedar creek road monday afternoon.

Lott told us his wife saw and heard the response from police and paramedics.

Charles lott, neighbor: "my wife described it as hearing a lot of sirens and seeing blue lights going down the road.

Then, later on, there's a church about a quarter-mile from here, she saw the sirens and lights down there and a helicopter landing and taking off."

The falkville police chief said the med evac helicopter landed at sunrise baptist church - since it was the closest safe landing zone.

The chief said the suspect called 9-1-1 after she shot her husband in the upper body 4 times.

Gray was taken to decatur morgan hospital where he later died.

Neighbors told me they feel for the family.

Charles lott, neighbor: "it's a sad situation and we're just praying for the family members."

Police say they are not releasing the name of the suspect because safety is an issue and they want to look at all the evidence objectively.

The police chief said they're looking at all possibilities in the case, from self-defense to murder.
