One student in the welding program at Eagle Point High School is using skills learned in the classroom at a part-time job.

Newswatch 12 spoke with gavin today about what made him jump on the chance to work at the shop while he's still in school.

Take advantage while your young cause when you get school butted to i'm just out here trying to have fun and do what i'm good at.

Gavin is currently working on a large bridge project in jackson county.

He helped cut the materials and building angles to certain specifications.

Gavin's mentor says that his math abilities are part of what helps him on the job.

Gavin says he isn't sure what his future holds -- but he is excited to continue working.

Get experience and then hopefully move on to iron workers gavin says he hopes to be able to go to college with money saved from his welding job.

Or attend a skilled to work program -- that would pay for his education.
