The LA Auto Show in Los Angeles on Wednesday (November 21) was dominated by the electric car craze, with Audi following Ford in debuting new models in the rapidly expanding market.

The German premium brand has added its second ever electric vehicle: The Audi E-Tron Sportback.

The car is part of a wider push by Audi to have 30 electric or hybrid vehicles by 2025.

Audi's vice president of brand management says the new model is design-centric.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) FILIP BRABEC, VICE PRESIDENT OF BRAND MANAGEMENT FOR AUDI, SAYING: "We're premiering the Audi E-Tron Sportback, which is a second all-electric car.

Last year we introduced the E-Tron SUV.

And now we are adding a more expressive, more design-oriented coupe-like styled model, which we're calling E-Tron Sportback." Also making its North America debut at the show, the new Land Rover Defender - the classic 4x4 that in its previous guise ended production in 2016.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) FINBAR MCFALL, PRODUCT MARKETING DIRECTOR FOR JAGUAR LAND ROVER, SAYING: "I think as well the overall package, there'll be nothing else like this car.

We were very -- There are elements which are intentionally familiar from the old Defender, so the round headlights, the alpine lights, the squared wheel arches and nothing unfamiliar.

But it's also got the contemporary and modern touches that you'd expect from a modern car.

So three elements of capability: the off-road, the on-road, and the connect capability.

That's the package that this car really delivers." Karma Automotive also wanted a piece of the electric car mania, unveiling two new offers - the 2020 Revero GTS and the SC2, a new 1,100-horsepower concept car that its engineers say can go from 0 to 60 mph in under 1.9 seconds.

These new debuts come just days after Ford unveiled the Mustang Mach E - an electric sport utility car.

It's the first of a more than dozen all-electric vehicles the company aims to launch by 2022.

To do so, they have an investment of $11.5 billion.
