Your morning news now... tropical storm barry' is bearing down on gulf coast states.
It could strengthen into a category one hurricane' by the time it makes landfall.
Flooding is the major concern... with the potential for 25- inches of rain to fall in some areas.
Thousands of louisiana national guard troops are ready to respond if needed over the weekend ... with boats, helicopter, and high- water vehicles.
Happening this weekend... there's a send- off ceremony for wisconsin troops heading overseas.
Nearly 400 national guard soldiers ... some headquartered in arcadia ... are being deployed to afghanistan.
The send-off ceremony on sunday will be a private one.
Assistant la crosse police chief rob abraham will be taking over as interim chief' soon.
Current chief ron tischer is moving on to a position in arizona.
His last day is july 23rd.
Abraham will begin his duties the following day.
The police and fire commission is conducting a nationwide search for a new, permanent chief.
((ad lib weather)) breaking overnight ... president donald trump is slamming a former republican speaker of the house.
In a late-night tweet... the president calls former wisconsin congressman paul ryan a - quote- "lame duck failure" congressman ryan is critical of the president in a new book... saying -quote- "i'm telling you... he didn't know anything about government.
I wanted to scold him all the time."
End quote- president trump is due in milwaukee this afternoon.

For the first time ever... it closed above 27- thousand yesterday.
Happening today... tickets go on sale for the upcoming farm aid' festival being held in wisconsin.
Willie nelson... neil young... john mellencamp and dave matthews will headline the concert in september at alpine valley.
Over the years... farm aid' has raised millions of dollars for programs meant to help american farmers.
A concert later today in la crosse will benefit local efforts to end homelessness.
The benefit concert starts tonight at six at the cavalier theater.
It's being hosted by the coulee collaborative to end homelessness.'
Tickets will be available at the door... or ahead of time at tree huggers' or pearl street books' in downtown la crosse.
"...we want to help country boom be as big of a success as it can be so next time when it's around, it can be an even bigger event for the community.
" organizers are reminding people to take advantage of available shuttles for the country boom' music festival this weekend outside west salem.
There's no parking on the fest grounds.
But shuttles leave regularly from the mall ... the la crosse center ... festival foods in holmen ... and west salem high school.

Around wisconsin today... one of the biggest car shows in the country is underway... not far from stevens point.
More than 120- thousand people are expected to visit the 47th annual iola car show' this weekend.
Today also happens to be collector car appreciation day.'
Looking ahead to the weekend in our area... the eighth annual driftless music festival' starts at noon tomorrow in viroqua.
Musicians will be playing all day long at eckhart park... with plenty of food available from local vendors.
There's no cost to attend.
And there's an event tomorrow in la crosse to fight off any summer boredom' your child might be experiencing right now.
They'll be able to try things like archery and fishing at the annual youth outdoor fest' ... meant to get kids and families interested in outdoor activities.
The event is free and open to the public.
It starts at ten tomorrow morning at veterans freedom park.

It was a beautiful day across the area thursday with seasonable temps and lower humidity.
Temperatures are cooler this morning ranging from the upper 40s to low low 60s.
Dew points are also on the lower side, but both of these will be on the rise heading through the day.
High pressure has moved to our east, shifting winds out of the south and southwest.
This will help temps warm into the upper 80s today.
A weak cool front will also bring a slight chance of a shower or storm later today.
