A feud between the U.S. and Iran escalates with a plan to increase uranium enrichment.

An Iranian official told Reuters the country will announce plans on Sunday to raise uranium enrichment levels to 5%.

That is above the 3.67% limit set by its 2015 nuclear deal with six major powers, and a second breach of the agreement.

The International Atomic Energy Agency said this week that Iran had exceeded the maximum stock of enriched uranium allowed under the deal.

Iran's semi-official Fars news agency reported earlier that a senior official will announce more cuts in its commitments to the pact on Sunday.

Tehran said it will exceed the deal's nuclear restrictions one by one in retaliation of crippling economic sanctions Washington has imposed on it since the U.S. withdrawal last year.

SOUNDBITE (English) U.S. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP ON MAY 8, 2018, SAYING: "We will be instituting the highest level of economic sanction." Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany all signed onto the 2015 pact, and are trying to keep the deal alive.

French President Emmanuel Macron says he will work to resume dialogue between all parties by July 15.
