Protesters to lawmakers: ‘Close the camps’

Protesters are marching in cities across the country Tuesday… demanding the closure of detention facilities holding migrant children and families.

Demonstrators stood outside lawmakers' offices - like Marco Rubio's in Miami.

Including one person in a cage.

They're calling attention to the dire conditions migrants are reportedly being kept in.

Just a day before - lawmakers visited a Customs and Border facility in El Paso, Texas where migrants are being detained.

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez called the situation 'horrifying." (SOUNDBITE) ALEXANDRIA OCASIO-CORTEZ SAYING: "What we saw today was unconscionable." White House spokesman Hogan Gidley on Tuesday praised the work of CBP agents and said "I don't know what Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is talking about." Ocasio-Cortez's criticism came after Propublica reported that a private Facebook group with almost 9,500 current and former Border patrol officers mocked migrants.

Customs and Border Protection says it has launched an investigation.
