(ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION) Australian police on Friday (April 26) charged a 19-year old man with assault and intimidation after two journalists were attacked at an event held by a controversial right-wing lawmaker.

Violence flared as independent senator Fraser Anning, who has been widely condemned for linking New Zealand's mass mosque shootings on the country's immigration programme, announced his party's candidate for the electorate represented by Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

Video footage showed a photographer approach a man who then threw several punches at the journalist.

Police said the fight begun after the unnamed man had earlier made threatening comments to a female journalist at the event in Cronulla, 30.5 km (19 miles) south of Sydney, and the scene of Australia's most infamous racial flashpoints.
