(SOUNDBITE) (English) AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE WOMEN'S PLAYER CARLTON BLUE TAYLA HARRIS, SAYING: "Fine with people commenting and critiquing my footy, I understand that is the football beast.

But it's the comments that are severely inappropriate, comments that my family will read and feel concerned for my safety because these people are behind screens now.

But there's no, no one saying they aren't going to show up at the footy on the weekend, and how do I identify if that was the person that made this vulgar comment, directed at me, cause now I'm uncomfortable in my workspace.

So I think that's the reason, when I think about it that is the reason why I'm standing up at the moment.

I could push this aside and I have the ability to because it has not affected me personally, but I have decided that this is a platform that I can help other people." (SOUNDBITE) (English) AUSTRALIAN PRIME MINISTER SCOTT MORRISON, SAYING: "I think they're grubs.

I think they're cowardly grubs who need to wake up to themselves.

You know, trolls on social media, they're nothing new these days sadly.

But I think what is horrible is those trolls tend to target women.

They tend to be the target for an inordinate share of the abuse that happens online.

I think that's a shameful indictment on the grubs who get on there." STORY: Australia's Prime Minister Scott Morrison has described social media users who posted abusive comments beneath a photograph of Australian Rules player Tayla Harris as "cowardly grubs" on Thursday (March 21).

Harris, who plays for Carlton in the Australian Football League Women's (AFLW) competition, was pictured with her leg fully extended as she kicked a goal in a photograph posted online by a broadcaster on Tuesday (March 19).

The post was pulled after a rash of comments that Harris described as "repulsive" and "sexual abuse" appeared underneath it, although the broadcaster later put it up again with an apology.

Harris, who also boxes professionally, described the online abusers as "animals" and received backing from around the world on social media.

The 21-year-old Queenslander said on Wednesday (March 20) she would not be issuing a complaint to the police but hoped the widespread coverage of the incident would make abusers think twice.
