Former Acting AG Matthew Whitaker Leaves Justice Department

Former acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker has left the Department of Justice.

His last day was Saturday.

Whitaker took over after former AG Jeff Sessions resigned.

After the Senate confirmed Bill Barr as the new attorney general last month, Whitaker served as a senior counselor in the associate attorney general's office.

It's unclear where Whitaker is heading next, but  sources told NBC News  that he would stay in Washington because of the "many opportunities here."  According to CNN, some Washington Republicans believe Whitaker's a potential candidate for White House chief of staff.  Additional reporting from  Newsy affiliate CNN .
