He'd been consuming the music from afar in his native Brazil, and Bryan Gee from V Recordings had the foresight to snap up an EP from Marky and fellow countryman Patife.

Your hack was at Marky's first-ever UK gig at Movement in London, where the Brazilian DJ/producer raised the bar for energy, skillz and goodtime sunshine vibes.

Becoming one of d&b's principal global ambassadors and acting as a conduit for the flow of electronic music into and out of Brazil, he's an inspirational talent.

Working with others in the past, this is Marky's first solo album — and it's fantastic.

Marky has always DJ'd across the jungle spectrum, but for the first part of 'My Heroes' he favours his signature sunny vibes — 'Bolkwush', 'Roundabout' with Japanese junglist Makoto, and 'Get It Up' with its sublime jazzy keys, sampling US songwriter Ned Doheny, lead into the liquid sunshine of feelgood summer anthem 'Silly'.

Latin houser 'Freedom' eases into a breezy 'Frenesi', and 'Getaway' is immersive feelgood funk that kicks like a mule towards the end.

This signals a switch up into a growly 'Be With You', the scything clatterfunk tech of 'Medusa', an old skool phuture funk 'Your Love Is' (which has the swing of classic E-Z Rollers on Moving Shadow from the '90s) and an e-zee Brazilliant 'Feeling Fine'.

'Crystal Illusions' again employs a wandering Zinc 'Casino Royale'-era b-line, horns and beezer 'Sambasim' beats before Marky goes housey again with 'Bella Drix'.

When Marky's on-form with the d&b, as with reflective album closer 'Those Moments' and all the rest of the deebee cuts on here, I defy anybody to say they don't like drum & bass.

Accessible, upbeat, positive and sun-kissed, this is an absolute joy.

Love it.
