ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore appeared to be referencing Donald Trump when he quizzed panellists on advice they would give to a world leader who does not believe in climate change, during a session at this year's World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos on Tuesday (January 22).

U.S. President Donald Trump, who was not attending the global gathering, has been rolling back environmental and climate protections to maximize production of domestic fossil fuels.

In 2017, he announced he would withdraw the United States from the 2015 Paris Deal to combat climate change, and at the end of last year dismissed findings of a U.S. government report projecting that climate change will cost the country's economy billions of dollars by the end of the century.

New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, a long-time supporter of combating climate change, said it was about being on the right side of history.

"You don't have to cede power by acting on climate change.

There's nothing to fear about your individual political status," she said.

British naturalist David Attenborough, who was also on the panel, said the 'head of state' should think about the generations of family who will have to deal with the consequences of climate change.

Attenborough, the 92-year-old veteran broadcaster, was in Davos promoting his new Netflix series titled "Our Planet", which is released in April.

A screening of the series was shown after the panel ended.
