La crosse for the right to go to regional competition.

The united states collegiate ski association finished a weekend of snowboard and ski racing activities today.

Racers came from as far as south dakota to get the best times... and improve their chances of making it to regional competition at marquette mountain in michigan.

Two teams will then move on from regionals to nationals... but today's race also has a local impact.

"it does so much just for the la crosse area.

You know, these people are all staying in hotels and going to the local businesses.

But, for us it means that even if the weather was 20 below or pouring rain these people show up and they're here to ski and they're here to race."

Alexander harris... a graduate of logan high school in la crosse... took first place in the men's slalom races today for saint olaf college in northfield minnesota.
