Sheriff Joe Arpaio Files Libel Lawsuit Against The New York Times

Controversial former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio is taking on the New York Times, ??Filing a libel lawsuit against the paper and a member of it’s editorial board.

??It was over an opinion piece attacking his hard line approach on immigration and law enforcement.

??The piece came out after Arpaio lost his Senate primary...it was titled, “Well, at Least Sheriff Joe Isn’t Going to Congress.” ??Arpaio is looking to get his hands on a huge amount of money…$147.5 million in damages.

??According to the court complaint, the former sheriff claims the op-ed has, “several false, defamatory factual assertions.” ??Fox News reports that Arpaio was looking to secure funds for donors for another Senate run in 2020 to ??fill the late Senator John McCain’s seat.

??The former Sheriff said the article damaged his ability to do that.

??Arpaio was convicted in 2017 for criminal contempt after refusing a judge’s order to stop traffic patrols targeting undocumented immigrants.

??President Trump pardoned him before his sentencing.
