Lauren Pope: "Knowledge is so valuable and gives some peace of mind should anything happen when we least expect it."
I'm now at 36 weeks and i cant believe how it's crept up so quickly, i'm feeling rather unorganised. I still need to pack my hospital bag and finalise my birth plan, I just feel like there aren't enough hours in a day, anyone else feel me right now?! Excited to bring you our next Facebook Live that we held in the group this week, I am loving these weekly lives as they are so informative and give us all a chance to ask a load of questions to people we wouldn't normally have access to. This week we had Michelle Murray who is a Paediatric First Aid Trainer and she gave us so much information in such a short amount of time that i'm now wanting to book onto her course because I think the knowledge she can teach is is so valuable and gives some peace of mind should anything happen when we least expect it. We covered so many topics and situations from how to stay calm in an emergency to help your patient stay calm; this is vital btw! Michelle also spoke about how to handle your baby if you think they are choking and how to recognise the difference between gagging and choking. Should we try and take out the item they are choking on, should we apply force to the babies back to try and remove the item, how do we hold our baby to be able to do this, at what point do we call an ambulance? All these questions are answered by Michelle. We spoke about allergic reactions and how best to deal with this as soon as you notice the reaction; this can be a reaction to something topical on babies skin or also something they have eaten. Again, great advice from Michelle on this alongside how to deal with burns and signs to workout the level of the burn to assess how best to deal with it. Have you ever wondered what essentials we need in a at home first aid kit? If so, keep watching! You will also learn the signs to look out for with Meningitis. Did you know that you may never even see a rash? These are all just so many areas where it does us no harm to have as much knowledge as possible to be able to know what we should be looking out for. If you're a big baby when it comes to blood like me then you will want to hear Michelle's ideas around how to cope with that, should this arise. Hopefully it won't but why not learn some skills to be able to cope with this and all the other areas i've mentioned. I really think you will find this useful, I did so big thank you Michelle. Love Lauren x
